Explosion Rocks Harvard University Building, Investigation Underway
CAMBRIDGE, MA – An explosion occurred Saturday in a building on the Harvard University campus, prompting an investigation by university police, the FBI, and other law enforcement agencies. Authorities are treating the incident as potentially intentional, but report no injuries.
The explosion occurred amid heightened scrutiny of Harvard, which is currently under pressure from the White House regarding higher education policies and engaged in negotiations with White House officials over a multi-million dollar deal to restore federal funding and resolve ongoing lawsuits. While the timing raises questions, investigators have not yet established any connection between the explosion and the university’s dealings with the federal government.
Harvard University Police Department (HUPD) is actively investigating the incident in coordination with local, state, and federal law enforcement partners, according to a statement released by the department. The FBI’s Boston Division is on the scene assisting with the investigation, confirmed spokeswoman Kristen setera.
police have released images of two individuals seen near the scene and are asking for the public’s help in identifying them. One individual was wearing a brown hooded sweatshirt with large black and yellow letters, beige pants, and light clogs. The other was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt,black and grey plaid pants,and black shoes.
