Bentley unleashes Rear-Wheel ⁢Drive ContinentalSupersports ‌with 657bhp

Crewe, England -⁤ Bentley has revealed the Continental Supersports, a new, driver-focused ⁤iteration of its grand tourer distinguished by a ⁤first-ever rear-wheel drive configuration for the‌ Continental lineage – excluding track-only GT3 racers. The Supersports delivers 657bhp and prioritizes‍ handling ⁤prowess over outright power, marking a ⁣notable shift in ⁤Bentley’s approach to performance.

While maintaining⁤ the core Continental ‌architecture – including double wishbones at the front, a multi-link axle at the rear, air springs, and rear-wheel steering – the Supersports receives considerable mechanical upgrades to accommodate the change to ⁤rear-wheel drive. Engineers widened the rear track by 16mm to effectively manage the ⁤power previously distributed across all four wheels.

Beyond‍ the drivetrain, complex software⁢ plays a crucial role. A torque ⁣vectoring system works ‍in conjunction with an electronic‌ limited-slip differential (eLSD)‌ to enhance turn-in sharpness and ‍maximize braking traction. Bentley has also implemented ‍bespoke steering‍ and suspension tuning, alongside revised traction management⁤ systems, specifically for the Supersports. New twin-chamber dampers further refine the driving experience.

The Supersports’ ⁤performance focus is ‌visually underscored ‌by a dramatically revised aerodynamic package. Bentley asserts that every element serves a⁢ functional purpose,‍ with no purely‍ aesthetic additions. Key features include a‍ lower and wider front bumper incorporating the largest splitter ever fitted to a road-going Bentley,‌ a lightweight ⁣mesh grille,‌ stacked dive planes, prominent side sills, large wing blades, a new rear diffuser, and a striking boot spoiler.

These aerodynamic enhancements generate over 300kg of⁤ additional ⁣downforce compared to the GT Speed, while maintaining⁣ a balanced 54:46 front-to-rear ‍weight distribution. ⁢Bentley has not released specific downforce figures for either ⁤model.⁣

The Continental Supersports⁤ represents a purposeful move by Bentley to cater to drivers seeking ⁣a more ⁤engaging and dynamic experience within⁣ the luxury grand touring‍ segment.
