Netflix subscribers can now experience the world of “Happy Gilmore” through a new playable video game demo titled “Happy Gilmore: Golf Mayhem ’98 Demo.” This retro-style game is accessible on TVs adn desktop devices and is included free with all Netflix subscriptions.
According to Netflix, the game is inspired by an opening montage in the film that depicts Happy Gilmore’s journey to becoming a video game star over the past 30 years.The demo offers a brief, nostalgic gaming experience where players can golf, engage in “Mortal Kombat“-style combat against familiar adversaries, and create mayhem on the golf course, all with a distinct 90s gaming aesthetic.
Developed by Amber, the game’s release follows Netflix’s collaboration with Spotify for another interactive “Happy Gilmore” experience, the “happy Gilmore 2 Tournament.” This Spotify app integration allows users to participate in film-themed golf challenges, featuring iconic easter eggs and audio clips, complemented by a personalized playlist of “Happy” tracks to enhance the gameplay and celebrate the upcoming film release.
Over the past three years, Netflix has been steadily expanding its video game library, which now boasts over 100 titles, with an increasing focus on games derived from its original intellectual property. Recent additions include titles like “Squid Game: Unleashed,” “Black Mirror: Thronglets,” and “Blood Line: A Rebel Moon Game.” Concurrently, the streamer has been reducing its portfolio of acquired indie titles.
