Halifax Newborn Death: Couple Charged, Bail Denied-Key Updates & Legal Developments
Sukhpreet Singh, 23 and Ramandeep Kaur, 26, appeared in a Halifax courtroom on Monday following their arrest in connection with the death of a newborn. The couple, who were taken into custody after police discovered the infant’s remains in a wooded area, did not seek bail during the proceedings. The Crown informed the court that the investigation remains active and that additional charges, described as “very serious,” may be brought against the pair as the case progresses. Currently, the accused face charges including the concealment of a child’s body and indignity to human remains. During the court appearance, the charges were updated to include obstruction. The matter has been adjourned until June 22. Both Singh and Kaur are to remain in custody until that date. The discovery of the infant has prompted a response from local authorities and first responders. The Halifax Regional Police led the investigation into the death, which has since drawn significant attention from the local community. Law enforcement officials have provided limited details regarding the circumstances surrounding the discovery, citing the ongoing nature of the judicial process.
