Gyeonggi Province Residents Face increased Risk of Tick-Borne Illnesses
Gyeonggi-do residents are urged to take preventative measures against tick-borne infectious diseases, as one in five people are susceptible to contracting illnesses from these parasites. Health officials warn that ticks are increasingly prevalent not only in traditional outdoor environments like forests and fields, but also in easily accessible areas such as gardens, parks, and walking trails.
gil, head of the Infectious Disease Research Division, emphasized the importance of protection during outdoor activities. “We must use tick repellents for activities like farming, hiking, weeding, and golf,” Gil stated.”Minimizing skin exposure through long sleeves, pants, and gloves is also crucial.”
The risk extends beyond remote locations. Ticks thrive in spaces close to home, necessitating vigilance even in seemingly safe areas. Following outdoor excursions, residents are advised to immediately wash their clothing and shower to remove any potential ticks. individuals experiencing symptoms suggestive of infection for more than two weeks should promptly seek medical attention and inform their healthcare provider of their recent outdoor activities.
