Leapmotor A10 and Audi 100 Signal Shift at Guangzhou Auto Show 2025
Guangzhou, China – The 2025 guangzhou Auto Show is showcasing a potential turning of the tide in the automotive industry, wiht both new entrants and established brands presenting vehicles that challenge current market trends.Leapmotor’s upcoming A10 electric SUV and a surprise appearance by a classic Audi 100 are drawing attention as indicators of this change.
Leapmotor is aiming its A10, an electric B-segment SUV, to compete directly with the Ford Puma Gen-E – and potentially overtake it as the UK’s best-selling vehicle if pricing is competitive. The A10 measures 4200mm long, 1800mm wide and 1600mm tall, making it slightly smaller and taller than the Puma Gen-E. Leapmotor claims a ‘class-leading’ range of 500km (310 miles), though this figure was achieved using Chinese testing protocols. The brand’s success with the T03, B10 and C10 models – noted for their affordability and quality relative to other Chinese vehicles - suggests the A10 could pose a significant challenge to European rivals.
In a contrasting display, Audi presented a classic Audi 100 to highlight the heritage of its China-only EV spin-off brand, AUDI, which recently celebrated its one-year anniversary. The vehicle’s smaller size and coupe styling sparked discussion about the increasing size and weight of modern cars. Observers noted the 100’s economical footprint and estimated kerb weight of around a tonne, suggesting potential fuel efficiency benefits compared to larger, more technologically-laden contemporary vehicles. The display prompted reflection on whether revisiting design principles from the 1970s could contribute to more enduring automotive solutions.
