Southern China’s Guangdong province is preparing for the arrival of Super Typhoon Ragasa, currently the most powerful storm of 2025 in the Northwest Pacific. The typhoon is tracking northwest and is expected to enter the South China Sea late on September 22nd after crossing the Bashi Channel. Landfall is anticipated between western Guangdong and eastern Hainan between September 24th and 25th.
Ragasa currently boasts sustained winds measuring 16-17 on the wind scale. From September 23rd through the 26th, eastern Guangdong and regions east of the Pearl River Estuary are forecast to experience strong winds, potentially reaching gusts of level 7-9, alongside important rainfall. These conditions pose a risk of fallen trees and localized damage. Authorities are advising all vessels in coastal waters to return to port and secure their equipment due to anticipated typhoon-force winds.
Due to the typhoon’s projected path, forecasters caution that Ragasa may make multiple landfalls, creating uncertainty regarding the precise timing and location of its impact. Guangdong provincial authorities are urging residents and businesses to proactively prepare for severe weather conditions, including heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and powerful winds.
Detailed Weather Outlook:
* September 23rd: torrential to extreme rainfall is expected in eastern Guangdong, the central-southern Pearl River Delta, southern Meizhou, and southern Heyuan. Other areas will likely experience cloudy skies and scattered showers, with potential thunderstorm gusts reaching levels 8-10.
* September 24th: Eastern Guangdong, the Pearl River Delta, and western Guangdong are predicted to receive torrential to extreme rainfall.Northern counties within the province should anticipate heavy to very heavy rain.
