GTA 6 on Switch 2: New Reports & Release Date Update

The release date for Rockstar Games’ highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto VI has been adjusted to November 19, 2026, according to a statement from Seize-Two Interactive Software, the game’s publisher. The delay, initially expected to be influenced by the ongoing actors’ strike, was formally announced on May 2, 2025.

Take-Two Chairman and CEO Strauss Zelnick affirmed the company’s support for Rockstar Games in taking the additional time needed to refine the game. “We support fully Rockstar Games taking additional time to realize their creative vision for Grand Theft Auto VI, which promises to be a groundbreaking, blockbuster entertainment experience that exceeds audience expectations,” Zelnick said in a press release.

The game is set in a fictionalized version of Florida, named Leonida and will feature the city of Vice City, inspired by Miami. Players will follow the story of Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos, described as a “romantic criminal duo.”

Amidst the official announcement, speculation regarding a potential Nintendo Switch 2 version of the game has resurfaced. KiwiTalkz, an interviewer focused on gaming news, reported on X (formerly Twitter) that a reliable source has indicated Grand Theft Auto VI will launch simultaneously on the Switch 2 alongside other platforms. KiwiTalkz has entered into a public wager with the source, betting that Rockstar will announce the Switch 2 version by early May. He stated that if Rockstar does not announce the Switch 2 version by that date, he will fund a dinner with the source in India.

Currently, Grand Theft Auto VI is confirmed for release on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. Take-Two Interactive anticipates record net bookings in both fiscal years 2026 and 2027, driven in part by the launch of the game.
