Rockstar Games co-founder Dan Houser revealed he had no writing involvement in teh upcoming Grand Theft Auto 6, stating, “The world’s probably had enough GTA from me.” The news comes from a recent interview with the New Yorker, offering a rare glimpse into the creative process behind one of the industry’s most anticipated titles.
Houser, who previously served as lead writer and creative force behind Grand Theft Auto V and Red Dead Redemption 2, stepped back from active development at Rockstar in 2019. His departure followed the intense crunch culture surrounding Red Dead Redemption 2‘s development, and he has since focused on his own production company, Unbound Concepts. This marks the first Grand Theft Auto title developed without his direct writing contribution, signaling a potential shift in the franchise’s narrative direction.
in the same interview, Houser expressed pride in Red Dead Redemption 2‘s story. He also explained that a sequel to Bully was never pursued due to “bandwidth issues,” clarifying that a small creative team limits the number of projects Rockstar can undertake simultaneously.
Grand Theft auto 6 is currently scheduled for release on May 26, 2026, after a delay from its initially projected 2025 launch. the game will be available on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
