Groningen police have arrested three individuals in connection with an armed robbery at a jewelry store on the Oosterstraat in Groningen on Monday, January 19th. Two of those arrested are minors.
The robbery occurred when two individuals entered the jewelry store and threatened the owner with what appeared to be a firearm. Multiple display cases were damaged during the incident, but no one was injured. The suspects fled with an undisclosed amount of stolen goods.
Police initiated an investigation immediately following the robbery, including forensic analysis at the scene, review of surveillance footage, and interviews with witnesses. A public appeal for information was also issued.
Two suspects, identified as teenage boys from Appingedam and Groningen, were apprehended on Tuesday and were presented before a judge on Friday, February 19th. The judge ordered they remain in custody for an additional 14 days, according to police statements.
A third suspect, an 18-year-old man from Groningen, was arrested on Wednesday. His home was searched by police, and he is currently being held for questioning. He is scheduled to appear before a judge-commissioner tomorrow, February 20th.
During the search of the 18-year-old’s residence, authorities seized data storage devices for further examination. Police also stated they recovered items believed to be part of the stolen property. The investigation is ongoing.
