Griffons Compete at ITA Regional Championships in Edmond
EDMOND, Okla. – The Missouri Western State university women’s tennis team recently concluded competition at the ITA Regional Championships, showcasing strong performances across both singles and doubles play. Several Griffons advanced through multiple rounds, gaining valuable experience against a competitive field.
the ITA Regional Championships serve as a crucial early-season test for the MoWest squad, providing a benchmark for skill growth and seeding opportunities for future tournaments. The event draws top players from across the region, offering a high level of competition and exposure for the Griffons as they prepare for their fall schedule.
Jevrosima Mitic led the Griffons in Flight A singles, reaching the Round of 16 after securing victories in both the round of 64 (6-4, 6-0) and the Round of 32 (6-2, 6-2). She ultimately fell to the No. 1 seed in the Round of 16, 3-6, 4-6. Claudia Pastor also demonstrated resilience in Flight A singles, overcoming a first-set loss (0-6) to win her Round of 64 match in three sets (6-4, 11-9), before being eliminated in the Round of 32 by the No. 3 seed (1-6, 1-6). Mila Larrieu competed in Flight B singles, falling in the Round of 64 (4-6, 4-6).
In doubles action, Ella Gates and Mila Larrieu excelled in Flight B, advancing to the quarterfinals with an 8-3 win in the Round of 16. Their run ended in the quarterfinals with an 8-4 defeat. Johanna Priedite and Jevrosima Mitic reached the Round of 16 in Flight A doubles, winning their Round of 32 match 8-4 before being edged out 8-2. Claudia Pastor and a teammate, Granero Boj, competed in Flight A doubles, narrowly losing their Round of 32 match 8-6.
The Griffons will return to action on October 2, traveling to Kirksville, Missouri, to face Truman State University. First serve is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. at the truman Tennis Courts.
