Motorcycle Taxi Driver Murdered in Gresik: Suspect Arrested After Violent Confrontation

Gresik, East JavaPolice have apprehended a 36-year-old man, identified by the initials SR, in connection with the brutal murder of a 30-year-old online motorcycle taxi driver whose body was discovered in a cardboard box wrapped in black plastic in the Kedamean area of Gresik Regency. The victim, identified by the initials SAC, was found on Sunday morning, July 27, 2025.

The Gresik Police Chief, AKBP Rovan Richard Mahenu, confirmed the arrest of SR, a resident of Sidoarjo who had been living in the Menganti District of Gresik. The arrest took place on Monday morning, July 28, 2025, at a rented house in Menganti. According to Mahenu, SR resisted arrest, leading officers to use decisive force.

“The Giri Tiger Team has made an arrest of one of the perpetrators with the initials SR, 36 years old, a resident of Sidoarjo but lived in Menganti District, Gresik,” Rovan stated on Monday. “When secured, the perpetrators fought the officers so that they where given a measured decisive action.”

Investigators had already identified the suspect following the finding of the victim’s body and a subsequent investigation that included examining evidence at the scene and interviewing witnesses.

In addition to arresting SR, who has reportedly confessed to the crime, the Gresik Police Criminal Investigation Team also took into custody another individual suspected of aiding SR in the murder. “At present, two people are secured, one of the perpetrators who has admitted his actions and one person who helped the perpetrators,” Mahenu added.

The victim’s body was found in bushes along the Kedamean highway. An autopsy revealed that SAC likely died from violent blunt force trauma. The examination indicated eight torn wounds on the victim’s head, ranging from 2 to 6.5 cm, along with severe bruising to the top and back of the head.Bruises were also found on the inner lips, and black tape was discovered in the oral cavity. The victim’s neck showed blisters, and her hands bore bruises and blisters, suggesting she may have struggled.

Further examination of the victim’s genital organs revealed tears on the blood membrane, along with white fluid. However, police stated ther was no indication of recent sexual violence. The autopsy results, including bleeding under the lining of the brain and spider membranes, and blood absorption in the head area, strongly suggest severe trauma as the cause of death.

Gresik Police investigators are currently interrogating the arrested individuals to determine the motive and modus operandi behind the heinous crime. “We continue to explore the motives of the perpetrators and the development of the investigation we will convey further,” concluded Mahenu.
