GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) – A Greenville mother is scheduled to appear in court‌ this afternoon following her arrest⁤ in Philadelphia⁤ last month in connection to the‌ November death of her ‌6-year-old son.

Saunsiree Jefferson, 25, was taken into custody and returned to Pitt County to face charges of felony negligent child abuse resulting⁢ in serious bodily injury and involuntary manslaughter.Greenville Police began searching for⁢ Jefferson last year after responding to a suspicious⁢ death report at the Knights Inn located at 3435 S. Memorial Drive.

Upon arrival, officers discovered the child⁢ deceased in a motel ⁣room where‌ his family resided in‍ reportedly unsanitary conditions. An autopsy later revealed the boy had been ⁤suffering from leukemia, and investigators‌ determined a lack⁤ of‌ medical care significantly contributed to his death.

The‍ child’s father, 27-year-old ⁢Timothy Curry, was arrested in May by the‌ Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police⁤ Department and faces identical charges. Curry’s arraignment is scheduled for October.

Jefferson ‌is being held on ‌a $500,000 ⁣bond and will make her initial court appearance at the Pitt County Courthouse at 1:30‌ p.m. today.
