A Celebration of Literary Women

This year’s fair pays tribute to Ana María Matute, Carmen Martín Gaite, and Julia Uceda, three prominent authors born a century ago. The fair recognizes the valuable legacy of women who have made Spanish literature a richer and more plural territory.

The fair acknowledges the challenges these authors faced,noting that it was not easy times who faced these authors. Though, with their courage they could be placed in the creative avant -garde, following the wake of the writers of 27 – and before them, by Carolina Coronado, Gertrudis Gómez de Avellaneda or Emilia Pardo bazán – and also others that shared generation with our honoree, such as Gloria Fuertes, Francisca Aguirre or Josefina Aldecoa, among others.

Extensive Programming and Accessibility

The fair boasts more than 340 activities, including over 50 school-focused events, spread across nine days. Each exhibitor will also host its own signature program, accessible on the fair’s website.

• Four main pavilions and rooms near the source of the battles will host events.
• Additional spaces throughout Granada will also host book-related activities.
• Accessibility measures have been implemented to make the fair more comfortable and open to all citizens.
• An extension to the neighborhoods is a new initiative, with hopes to consolidate it in future editions.
• The night of saturday, May 17, will coincide with the blank night, extending cultural activity until midnight.

Focus on Diversity and Inclusion

The guiding motto of the fair is women, literatures, emphasizing the variety and diversity of women in literature. The fair aims to make visible the variety and that we are not just one, but we are many and diverse, both as women, as in literary approaches and nature, so varied in the origin, the territories, the languages, the languages.

While Spanish literature enjoys a critically important presence of female authors, editors, and readers, the fair recognizes that much remains to be done from a gender outlook. The goal is to continue working on the construction of an inclusive look,which recognizes diversity.

Events and Special Programs

The Book Fair of Granada promotes spaces for book presentations, round tables, and talks that highlight the presence of female authors and the realities they face. The programming aims to contribute to the recognition of equality, respect, and the eradication of sexist violence.

• An exhibition sponsored by the Caja Rural Granada Foundation focuses on the legacy of Spanish authors of the 1950s.
• A documentary cycle on writers and editors includes the premiere of “Women, Paper and Scissors.”
• The “Violet Readings” program, promoted by the area of equality of the City of Granada, features about thirty events.
• The Abbey theater, thanks to the Cervantes Institute, will present a dramatized reading of a work by Carmen Martín Gaite.

Collaboration and Recognition

The fair has collaborated with equality areas of organizing institutions, authors, editors, and literary professionals. Marta Sanz, a writer from madrid, will deliver the inaugural proclamation.

the Fair Award, consisting of a Loneliness Seville lawsuit delivered by the Diputación de Granada, has recognized the work of the Association of Women Journalists of Granada. the Publications Service of the Diputación de Granada is editing “Insola” by Emilia Pardo Bazán as a commemorative book, which will be given free of charge to visitors who buy a book at the fair.
