Gran Turismo 7‘s Spec III Update Arrives in December with New Content and Features
Fukuoka, Japan – Polyphony Digital will release Spec III, a major update for Gran Turismo 7, this December, bringing new race tracks, vehicles, and a host of features designed to enhance the racing experience. The update is anticipated to coincide with the Gran Turismo World Final in Fukuoka on December 20-21, perhaps arriving on or around Christmas Day.
Currently, Gran Turismo 7‘s weekly mode offers five races, four from World Circuits and a unique Special Event. Spec III will expand this with the addition of Time Trial and Mission Challenge events. A preview image suggests the Time Trial will utilize a circuit Experience-style format on a short section of Brands Hatch, distinct from the existing challenge. The inclusion of a new Mission Challenge hints at a potential resurgence of mission-based gameplay.
The update introduces a new “Seasonal Menu,” the purpose of which remains undisclosed, potentially linking to a new Seasonal race mode. For competitive players, the Data Logger-a lap time comparison feature last seen in Gran Turismo 6-will return. Initial images reveal overlays displaying speed, throttle, brake position, engine speed, G-force traces, and multiple display modes for comparing laps between two cars.
Further enhancements include the integration of new Dunlop tires, developed through a partnership with Sumitomo Rubber Industries, likely necessitating adjustments to the game’s physics model. Polyphony Digital also lists “improvements to online races,” details of which are currently unconfirmed, alongside the addition of new Scapes and a brand-new opening movie.
