Banyumas, Central Java – Indonesian Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Sudaryono, has emphasized the critical need to strengthen superior livestock breeding adn expand the downstream processing of national milk production. This initiative directly supports the governmentS newly launched Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) program, aimed at improving the nutritional well-being of vulnerable populations.

During a visit to a breeding center in Banyumas on Sunday, Sudaryono stated that a robust breeding ecosystem, from initial stages to final product, is paramount. He specifically highlighted the importance of ensuring a consistent supply of high-quality feed as the foundation for increased livestock productivity.

The focus on breeding high-quality dairy cows and goats is expected to considerably boost national milk production. Improved livestock management practices, adhering to established standards, are projected to yield higher milk outputs and increased profitability for farmers.

Sudaryono noted the substantial opportunities within the Indonesian milk market, particularly fueled by the demand generated by the MBG program. He expressed hope that local farmers, through Nutritional Fulfillment Service units (SPPGs), will be able to supply the milk required for the program, fostering economic growth within village communities.

Regarding the expansion of the dairy cow population, the Deputy Minister clarified that the government is not directly involved in importing livestock. However, they are actively encouraging private sector participation in importing live cows to Indonesia.

Data from the Ministry of Agriculture indicates that 27,000 dairy cows have already been imported. projections estimate this number will reach 100,000 by the end of 2025. Sudaryono stressed the necessity of collaborative synergy among all stakeholders to sustainably strengthen the cattle population, milk production, and distribution networks.

The MBG program,launched on January 6,2025,is a key initiative of President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran rakabuming Raka,designed to enhance the nutritional status of children under five,pregnant women,breastfeeding mothers,and students through the high school level.
