Goseong County Dominates Provincial Sports Festival

Goseong County secured top finishes across several events and earned the harmony award at the 37th Gyeongsangnam-do Life Physical Education Festival, which concluded its three-day run in Jinju, Hansannews reported.

Massive Delegation Sends Athletes to 21 Disciplines

The county dispatched a delegation of 620 people—including 122 officials and 498 athletes—across 21 different disciplines for the provincial competition held from November 30 to December 1.

Goseong athletes notched first place in the county division for both track and field, marking a third year at the top, and aikido, which secured a second title.

Medals Across Ground Golf, Volleyball, and Soccer

Other sports claimed second-place finishes in the county division: ground golf, volleyball, gymnastics, soccer, and taekwondo.

Third-place county division finishes went to kendo, senior-division ground golf, basketball, badminton, senior-division gymnastics, and senior-division tennis. Park Hyeong-gap, born in 1942, received the longevity award in the park golf discipline.

Leadership Praises Injury-Free Schedule

Goseong County Mayor Ha Hak-yeol credited the results to the sustained efforts of the county’s sports participants and noted that all delegates completed the schedule without injury.

The mayor added that preparations are already underway for the 40th provincial festival in 2030 to further expand grassroots sports participation. Goseong Sports Council President Bae Jeong-gu noted that the festival successfully strengthened community health and athletic breadth. The annual competition rotates among cities and counties that hosted the previous year’s Gyeongsangnam-do Provincial Sports Festival.

Looking Ahead to 2030 Provincial Festival

Haman and Changnyeong counties will host the 38th iteration of the festival next year. Meanwhile, Goseong is scheduled to co-host the 68th Gyeongsangnam-do Provincial Sports Festival with Tongyeong and Geoje in 2029, followed by the 40th Life Physical Education Festival in 2030.
