Bruce Prichard plans remote role transition as WWE weighs successors
WWE executive Bruce Prichard is preparing a six-month transition plan to step away from his full-time travel schedule and shift into a remote, work-from-home role while recovering from surgery. The planned change in leadership comes as the 63-year-old manages injuries stemming from a neck issue that has worsened over time, prompting the company to evaluate long-term succession strategies across its creative and talent development divisions.
Prichard, who has been associated with WWE in various capacities since 1987, is currently scheduled to step down from his full-time post as Executive Director of Creative Writing and Talent following WrestleMania 43 in 2027, according to PWInsider. While initial reports pointed toward a complete departure from the company, Fightful Select reported that Prichard is instead planning to undergo serious surgery and transition to working remotely rather than retiring entirely. Prichard recently stepped in to run television shows for a two-week period in October while Chief Content Officer Paul “Triple H” Levesque was away on vacation.
Internal Candidates Emerge to Divide Administrative and Creative Duties
As the organization weighs adjustments to its management structure, multiple internal candidates have surfaced as potential successors. The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reported that current plans involve splitting Prichard’s core administrative and creative responsibilities between Ed Koskey and Robert Roode. Koskey has already taken over several administrative duties previously handled by Prichard, while plans are simultaneously being evaluated for Roode to eventually assume high-level producing and management responsibilities comparable to those held by Michael Hayes or Prichard.

Initial speculation suggested that NXT Senior Vice President of Talent Development Creative Shawn Michaels might absorb Prichard’s core duties. However, internal sources pushed back on those rumors, noting that moving Michaels into the role would require twice-weekly television travel that would conflict with his ongoing responsibilities managing the NXT developmental ecosystem. Any major reorganization of the creative chain of command would trigger significant adjustments across developmental properties like NXT, Evolve, and WWE ID.
Expanding Roles for Former in-Ring Talent
Beyond the executive suite, several former in-ring competitors are positioned for increased backstage influence. Following the conclusion of his active in-ring career, AJ Styles is expected to take on an expanding role in talent scouting. Internal sources praised Styles as a positive presence after he recently stepped in to lead a training class, though reports clarifying his status denied rumors that he is running the WWE Performance Center. Discussions regarding potential future involvement in developmental have also included CM Punk and Bayley.

Executive restructuring decisions and backstage promotions are expected to become clearer over the coming months as WrestleMania 43 approaches. No official announcements regarding a definitive leadership succession plan have been released by the company.
