Gordon Ramsay: A Fan’s View – Food, Restaurants & Verdict

by Rachel Kim – Technology Editor

Gordon Ramsay Restaurants, the global dining group founded by the celebrity chef, currently operates 90 restaurants worldwide, according to a recent accounting as of late 2024. This figure represents a significant expansion from the 34 restaurants and bars the group maintained within the United Kingdom alone as of 1997, when the company was founded.

The restaurant empire began in 1993 when Ramsay became head chef at Aubergine, where he earned his first two Michelin stars. He later established Restaurant Gordon Ramsay in London, which has held three Michelin stars for 25 years. A more recent addition to the Ramsay portfolio, Restaurant Gordon Ramsay High, was awarded its first Michelin star.

Ramsay’s business model has involved mentoring chefs who then proceed on to lead their own restaurants. Angela Hartnett and Jason Atherton both previously worked at Verre before establishing their own successful ventures. Marcus Wareing also benefited from Ramsay’s mentorship, initially heading the London-based Pétrus, which earned two Michelin stars under his leadership. A later disagreement led to Wareing retaining the Pétrus premises and stars, while Ramsay secured the rights to the name, eventually opening a new Pétrus by Gordon Ramsay in 2010.

The chef has also capitalized on the popularity of his television shows, launching several “Hell’s Kitchen”-themed restaurants, the first of which opened in Las Vegas in January 2018. Beyond traditional dining, Gordon Ramsay Restaurants offers a range of experiences, including chef and cocktail masterclasses, afternoon tea, tasting menus, and private dining options. The group also operates a Gordon Ramsay Academy, offering cooking classes for both social and corporate events at 22 Bishopsgate in London.

Gordon Ramsay Restaurants provides gift vouchers and delivery services, and caters to group bookings and weddings. The organization’s website also promotes masterclasses and other events.
