Google I/O Highlights: New Gemini AI Features and Device Compatibility
Google opened its annual I/O developer conference on Tuesday with a series of product announcements focused on the expansion of its Gemini artificial intelligence ecosystem. Chief Executive Officer Sundar Pichai introduced several new tools, including Gemini 3.5 Flash and a personalized assistant known as Spark.
The company positioned Gemini 3.5 Flash as a high-speed iteration within its existing AI suite, designed to enhance performance for developers and users. In addition to the new model, Google showcased Gemini Omni, a tool specialized for video-editing tasks. The conference also provided an update on the company’s ongoing development of smart glasses technology.
The introduction of these new capabilities comes alongside specific requirements for hardware integration. Reports indicate that access to the latest Gemini intelligence features will be limited to select Android-powered devices. Users with older hardware may face compatibility restrictions, as the new systems require specific processing power and architecture to function.
While the company emphasized the utility of its new AI-driven tools, the announcement of the forthcoming Gemini 3.5 Pro model—scheduled for release next month—drew mixed reactions from attendees at the conference.
Google has scheduled further sessions throughout the remainder of the developers conference to provide additional technical details on the deployment of these tools and their integration into the company’s broader software ecosystem.
