Golf Saudi and Asian Tour Postpone Saudi International Event

“The Asian Tour remains in direct contact with its players and members regarding the schedule and next steps,” tournament officials stated on October 15, 2026, as the postponement of the PIF Saudi International was confirmed. The season-ending golf tournament, backed by Saudi Arabia’s Private Investment Fund and carrying a $5 million purse, was originally set to take place from November 18 to 21 at the Riyadh Golf Club.

Organizational Challenges and Regional Security Concerns

The Asian Tour pointed to organizational and logistical challenges as the primary driver behind the delay. Golfweek reported that the decision came amid ongoing conflicts across the Middle East. Official sources in Saudi Arabia confirmed that a strike hit King Khalid International Airport on October 11, coming just a day after an attack at the same airport killed at least 13 people. The facility sits approximately 30 minutes away from the Riyadh Golf Club venue.

Last year’s tournament concluded with Josele Ballester claiming the title and a $1 million first-place prize. Organizers have not yet announced a make-up date for the 2026 event. Cho Minn Thant, Asian Tour commissioner and CEO, addressed the situation in a statement, noting that the competition remains one of the most vital fixtures on the calendar and expressing an intent to return to Riyadh in the future.

DP World Tour Playoffs Proceed in the UAE

While the Asian Tour postponement halts play in Saudi Arabia, the DP World Tour continues monitoring the region ahead of its upcoming playoff swing in the neighboring United Arab Emirates. A DP World Tour spokesperson told Golfweek that the organization still intends to proceed with its two November playoff events as scheduled. The Abu Dhabi Aldar Championship at Yas Links Golf Club in Abu Dhabi is slated to begin on November 5, followed by the Race to Dubai finale, the DP World Tour Championship, at Jumeirah Golf Estates in Dubai on November 12.
