Lewandowski Finishes 19th in 2023 Ballon d’Or Rankings
PARIS - Robert Lewandowski finished 19th in the 2023 Ballon d’Or rankings, awarded Monday evening in Paris, marking a important drop from his previous placements and concluding a voting cycle where the Polish striker’s performance was widely debated. Lionel Messi secured his record-extending eighth Ballon d’Or title.
The 35-year-old Barcelona forward, a former winner of the Golden Shoe as Europe’s top goalscorer, received fewer votes this year despite continuing to feature prominently for both club and country. This outcome arrives as Lewandowski prepares for a potential Euro 2024 qualifying elimination match against Spain, where he could face Barcelona teammates including Lamine Yamal. The Ballon d’Or, awarded by France Football, recognizes the best male football player in the world, judged by a panel of international sports journalists. Lewandowski previously finished 2nd in 2021 and 7th in 2022.
