Globo and Endemol Shine Brasil Partner for Non-Scripted IP, variety.com reports
Brazilian media behemoth Globo and Endemol Shine Brasil have formed a strategic partnership to develop and produce non-scripted intellectual property with global appeal and local relevance, variety.com reported. The alliance builds on prior collaborations between the two companies on major franchise hits.
Globo and Endemol Shine Brasil Deepen Partnership
The newly forged pact deepens a working relationship that has previously brought prominent formats to Brazilian screens. Together, the partners have produced local versions of international hits including Big Brother Brasil, No Limite (Survivor), The Masked Singer, Dança dos Famosos (Dance of the Famous), and The Wall.
Under the new agreement, Globo holds priority exploitation rights for the freshly developed formats across its own channels and streaming platforms. Meanwhile, Endemol Shine Brasil will handle international expansion. That distribution effort will use the worldwide network of parent company Banijay Entertainment, which spans more than 170 labels across 25 territories.
Both companies maintain a major presence at the Mipcom conference running from October 10 to 15. According to published reports, Globo reaches and engages more than 70 million people daily through its content production.
Leadership Perspectives on the Partnership
Nani Freitas, CEO of Endemol Shine Brasil, stated that the partnership extends back to Endemol’s initial entry into the Brazilian market. Freitas noted that joining forces from the very beginning of the development process creates a powerful environment for culture-defining entertainment with potential far beyond the domestic market.
Amauri Soares, Executive Director of Globo Studios, pointed to the studio’s expanding investments in creative development hubs. Soares explained that the collaboration connects local talent with international expertise from Endemol Shine Brasil and Banijay Entertainment to transform Globo into a hub for Brazilian intellectual properties.
Laurens Drillich, CEO of Banijay Latin America, acknowledged the difficulty of launching new original programming in current media markets while expressing enthusiasm for the collaboration with Globo.
Recent Production Expansion Across Platforms
Endemol Shine Brasil has expanded its production footprint across traditional television, digital platforms, and vertical microdramas. In April, the company partnered with ReelShort for a Brazilian adaptation of the microdrama platform’s hit series Married at First Sight. Endemol Shine Brasil also teamed up with A Fábrica, a Banijay Americas company, to slate vertical-format microdramas.
Additionally, the company created the original docu-reality series Underground City (Cidade Subterrânea), which explores the São Paulo subway system. That series premiered on GNT and Globoplay, and also broadcast on TV Globo’s Fantástico.
