Global Youth Water Envoys Selected for UN Water Conference 2026 in Abu Dhabi
The Arab Youth Center announced the selection of 100 young envoys from 75 countries, chosen from a pool of 2,000 applicants to participate in the upcoming United Nations Water Conference 2026. These delegates will embark on a two-month qualifying program starting in October and November to prepare for the global summit, which is scheduled to take place in Abu Dhabi from December 8 to 10.
Global Selection Process and Regional Representation
Selected from six distinct global regions, the 100 delegates bring diverse academic and professional backgrounds spanning scientific research, public policy, engineering, entrepreneurship, and community development. The cohort includes representatives from Morocco, Jordan, Sierra Leone, Palestine, Indonesia, Solomon Islands, Trinidad and Tobago, Bolivia, and the Netherlands. Their expertise covers specialized areas such as water sciences, environmental law, and water governance.
According to remarks delivered during a digital press conference, the initiative reflects a broader commitment to equipping emerging leaders with the necessary tools to influence global policy frameworks.
Abdulla Balaa, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Energy and Sustainability, also addressed the delegates during the introductory meeting. He noted that the program aims to establish a platform for youth participation in international water diplomacy, encouraging participants to move beyond observation roles and actively contribute to decision-making processes.
Preparation Through the Two-Month Training Program
The training curriculum designed for October and November combines foundational instruction with specialized coursework aligned with the six interactive dialogues of the UN Water Conference. Administrative coordination for the selection phases and training outlines was directed by Fatima Al-Halami, Executive Director of the Center, alongside inputs from supporting organizations and selected participants.
Long-Term Impact on Global Water Diplomacy
The Abu Dhabi conference represents a milestone for collaborative environmental policy, co-hosted by the United Arab Emirates and the Republic of Senegal.
