NYU Shanghai Launches New Global China Studies⁢ Minor, Reflecting China’s Rising Global Influence

Shanghai, China – As China’s role on the world stage continues ⁤too expand, NYU⁢ Shanghai is responding with a new interdisciplinary minor‌ in Global China Studies. The‌ program, announced ‍today, aims to equip⁣ students with the nuanced understanding and critical skills necesary to‌ navigate the complexities of a ‌rapidly changing world⁢ increasingly shaped by ⁣China’s influence.

Beyond conventional area studies, the Global ⁤China ​studies minor offers a holistic approach, examining China’s interactions with the globe‌ and internal trends across individual, societal, state, and global levels. The curriculum will delve⁢ into the socio-economic,religious,cultural,and political transformations occurring within⁢ China and their reverberations ⁤internationally.

China is no longer simply a regional power; it’s​ a⁤ defining force in the 21st ‍century,”⁤ says the program’s Area Head, an Assistant Professor of​ Global ⁢China Studies. “This minor⁢ is⁣ designed ⁤to provide students ⁣with the tools ​to analyze and understand this dynamic,⁤ and to ‌prepare them for‌ careers‌ in a world‍ where knowledge of ⁢China ⁤is increasingly vital.”

Minor Requirements:

The 16-credit minor requires​ students to complete the following:

* ‌ Foundational⁤ Course (4 credits): ⁢Students choose between GCHN-SHU‌ 110: The Concept of China, or another designated “China and the World” course.
* ⁤ Electives (12 credits): Four‍ Global China Studies electives,‌ allowing students to tailor‌ their studies⁣ to specific interests.
* Language Flexibility: Students ⁢can fulfill ​up​ to two elective credits with advanced or post-advanced ​language courses.
