Dominique pelicot, the ex-husband of Gisèle Pelicot, testified in court that convicted rapist Dogan, 44, was fully aware his former wife was sedated during the assault. Dogan is the only one of 51 men convicted in the case to appeal his sentence.
The testimony provides a harrowing account of the events leading up to and during the rape of Gisèle Pelicot, offering crucial insight into the alleged premeditation and deliberate nature of the crime. The case has drawn international attention, sparking outrage and raising questions about consent and sexual violence. The trial is ongoing and expected to conclude Thursday, with the outcome potentially impacting Dogan’s nine-year prison sentence and setting a precedent for similar cases.
Pelicot detailed specific instructions he gave Dogan before his arrival, emphasizing Gisèle Pelicot’s incapacitated state. “I said precisely on the phone there was to be no tobacco, no scent, he was to wash his hands, no violence, it would be filmed. All these things left him in no doubt of her state,” Pelicot told the court. He further stated he directed Dogan to undress outside the kitchen to prevent him from remaining in the house should a problem arise.
According to Pelicot’s testimony, Dogan drove approximately one hour from another village after telling his wife he was going out, arriving around midnight. Pelicot recounted having to guide Dogan to the house after he became lost.
When questioned about Dogan’s demeanor upon seeing Gisèle Pelicot unconscious, Pelicot responded, ”No, it suited him.” He alleged Dogan even requested assistance during the assault, stating, “He asked me to lift my wife’s leg and wanted to put her head in a certain position becuase she couldn’t do it.” Pelicot also testified that Dogan “took pleasure” in the situation.
Pelicot refuted Dogan’s claim that he was told the encounter was a game, stating, “No, I never said that.” He described dogan’s appeal as “indecent.” The trial continues.
