Actress Gina Carano has reached a settlement with Disney and Lucasfilm, resolving her lawsuit stemming from her dismissal from the Star Wars spin-off series, The Mandalorian. The dispute began after Carano’s termination in 2021, triggered by social media posts that drew criticism for comparing the experience of being a Republican in contemporary America to the persecution of Jewish people during the Holocaust.
In a now-controversial Instagram post,Carano stated,”Jews were beaten in the streets,not by Nazi soldiers but by their neighbors … even by children,” as reported by Variety. Disney characterized these posts as “abhorrent and unacceptable,” citing the denigration of individuals based on their cultural and religious identities.
Carano initiated legal action against Disney in 2024, alleging wrongful termination and sex discrimination. Her case received financial support from billionaire Elon Musk. The actress contended that her firing was a consequence of expressing conservative political views, while male actors who voiced differing opinions faced no repercussions.
Further scrutiny arose from Carano’s posts on X,formerly Twitter,where she questioned the necessity of mask-wearing during the COVID-19 pandemic and amplified unsubstantiated claims of voter fraud in the 2020 presidential election.
Lucasfilm released a statement on Thursday, asserting that Carano “was always well respected by her directors, co-stars, and staff, and she worked hard to perfect her craft while treating her colleagues with kindness and respect.” The statement continued, expressing a desire to explore future collaborations with Carano now that the lawsuit has concluded.
The terms of the settlement remain confidential. Carano announced the resolution on X, describing it as “the best outcome for all parties involved.” She expressed gratitude to God and thanked Musk for his support, stating he “asked for nothing in return.”
Carano indicated her intention to continue pursuing opportunities in the arts, inviting her followers to join her in this next phase of her career. “Yes, I’m smiling,” she added.
