The San Francisco Giants defeated the Athletics 8-2 on Saturday in Mesa, Arizona, marking their first spring training matchup since the Athletics’ relocation, according to ESPN.

Tyler Mahle, who signed a one-year deal with the Giants in the offseason, made his first start of spring training for San Francisco. Mahle is recovering from Tommy John surgery and a subsequent shoulder issue that limited his playing time with the Texas Rangers last season. He pitched for the Giants on Saturday, but his statistics from the game were not immediately available.

The Giants’ lineup included Heliot Ramos at leadoff, followed by Bryce Eldridge, Eric Haase, Jerar Encarnacion, Luis Matos, Will Brennan, Parks Harber, Buddy Kennedy, and Christan Koss.

Several Giants players are currently dealing with injuries. Rafael Devers was scratched from Friday’s game due to a tight hamstring, and Harrison Bader left Friday’s game with a contusion on his right thumb. Joel Peguero is progressing in his recovery from left hamstring tightness and is expected to begin a throwing program within the next week. Sam Hentges, who missed the entire 2025 season with right knee surgery, is on a slower ramp-up schedule in spring training.

The game took place at Hohokam Stadium in Mesa, Arizona. The Giants entered the game with a 5-2 record, while the Athletics were 1-5. The game was broadcast on KNBR radio.

The Giants previously defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers 12-2 on Friday, securing their first spring training win against a long-time rival. The rivalry dates back to when both teams were located in New York City and Brooklyn, respectively.
