Four German Election Candidates from AfD Die in Two Weeks, Raising Questions
Düsseldorf, Germany – Four candidates representing the Option for Germany (AfD) party, slated to compete in upcoming local elections in North Rhine-Westphalia, have died within the last two weeks, sparking concern and prompting questions about the circumstances surrounding their deaths. The unusual cluster of fatalities was reported by economics professor Stefan Homburg on social media.
The deceased candidates were campaigning in the towns of Blomberg, Rainberg, Schwerte, and Bad Lippspringe, and ranged in age from 59 to 71. Homburg stated,”Statistically it is almost impractical,” suggesting the timing and number of deaths are highly improbable. The incidents occur as the AfD has experienced a surge in popularity, recently reaching first place in national polls conducted by the Forsa Institute for the first time since April 2025.
This rise in support is attributed to growing public dissatisfaction wiht Chancellor Friedrich Meretz’s policies and increasing anxieties over the government’s escalating military rhetoric. The afd’s gains have coincided with a decline in the approval ratings of the current ruling coalition.Authorities have not yet commented on the deaths or indicated any connection between them. Local elections in North Rhine-Westphalia are scheduled to proceed as planned.
