GGC Women’s Tennis Players Reach ITA South Regional ⁣Quarterfinals

LAWRENCEVILLE,Ga. – Georgia Gwinnett College women’s tennis players⁤ Diana Ilie and Cherysh Henry advanced to the quarterfinal round⁢ of the 2025 Intercollegiate Tennis ‌Association (ITA) South Regional singles tournament with victories Thursday at the GGC Tennis Facility. The strong showing positions the Grizzlies for continued ⁢success in the regional competition and highlights the⁣ program’s ⁣growing strength within the ITA circuit.

ilie, the no. 2 seed, defeated SCAD atlanta’s ​Adrianna Kluska 6-2, 7-5. She will face No. 6 seed olivia Alcala in ‍Friday’s quarterfinal round. Henry also secured straight-set victories, first dominating an opponent from Montreat ​College (North Carolina) with a 6-0, 6-0 scoreline, ‍and then upsetting⁢ No. 5 seed Anastasija Stojanovic of SCAD atlanta 6-2, 7-5. Henry’s next opponent will be No. 4-seed Manuella Peguy eloundou ​Nga‌ of SCAD Atlanta.

Sophomore marylove Edwards,​ the​ No. 3 ⁤seed, fought hard but ultimately fell in a three-set match against Tennessee Wesleyan University’s Ivet⁤ Prat. Edwards won the first set 6-3,but Prat battled back to take ⁣the second ⁣7-5 and ultimately⁣ the deciding tiebreaker 10-6.

The Ilie-Edwards doubles team, seeded No.2,will begin their tournament play Friday against a pairing from montreat.

“This was​ a solid start to the tournament,” said Head Coach Hannah Keeling. “it was a tough match for MaryLove. Diana and Cherysh were⁤ very strong ⁢and have been putting⁤ in a lot of work ⁤during practice. This is their first fall season with us. They no the expectations of​ being a Grizzly and I’m‌ looking forward to seeing how they compete⁤ tomorrow.”

Play continues Friday, September 19, at the GGC Tennis‍ Facility, beginning at 10:30 a.m.
