Gemini App Android Update Revamps Side Panel and Settings
Gemini App Rolls Out Android Redesign Featuring Reorganized Side Panel and Consolidated Settings
-
The Tech TL;DR:
- Google relocated search to the top-right corner of the Gemini app interface on Android.
- The side panel now restricts recent chat history to five items before expanding via a “More” button.
- App preferences and account controls are no longer split, with settings consolidated into a single page.
Search Moves to Top Right of Updated Interface
The updated interface reorganizes menu items to prioritize core functions. The layout starts with search placed directly in the top-right corner. Below that, “New chat” remains the first item in the list, while “Library” has moved up to appear immediately next instead of sitting near the bottom of the drawer.
To reduce visual clutter while preserving access to recent conversation history, the app limits displayed chats to five items. Tapping a “More” button expands the full list. For users with an AI Ultra subscription, the complete roster includes New chat, Library, Images, Scheduled, Daily brief, Customize, Students, Videos, and Gems.
Google Consolidates User Preferences on Single Settings Page
In addition to the side panel changes, Google overhauled the settings menu. Previously, user preferences were split between the account menu and a separate “Gemini Settings” section. All configuration options now live on a single page.
The account menu is now dedicated exclusively to switching accounts, leaving Feedback, or accessing Help. The primary settings page opens with “Manage account” and “Usage limits.” The Preferences section gathers Notifications, Personal Intelligence, Avatar, Task settings, a new Theme option, Skills, Voice, Media, Device controls, Cart and orders, and Gemini Notebook.

Two additional blocks round out the menu structure. Data and privacy options cover Import memory, Contact info from your devices, Gemini Apps Activity, Your public links, and the Privacy Help Hub. The Get support section provides access to Help, Report a problem, About, and Updates.
The updated side panel and settings originally debuted on iOS, macOS, and the web app with the launch of Gemini 4 Argon, before reaching Android via this week’s server-side push.
