Fraudulent online operations utilizing the brand identity have established a significant footprint on encrypted messaging applications. According to data provided by Rep. Lim Moon-young’s office, investigators identified two primary channels operating under the resort’s name: a general chat room titled “Gangwon Land” with 1,500 participants, and another named “Freedom Infinite Promotion Room Gangwon Land” boasting 5,000 members. Both digital spaces serve as distribution hubs for multiple online gambling platforms.

Within the “Gangwon Land” chat room, administrators market unauthorized gambling sites as “certified affiliate partners” and promote high-stakes wagering using cryptocurrencies. The channel enforces strict operational rules, including a notice reading “Promotion 24 hours, within 10 lines per 1 time.” Alongside these betting advertisements, predatory lending offers explicitly target minors. Another chat room utilizing the company’s official logo features urgent loan promotions bearing the text “Anyone born before 09 is approved.” The networks expose adolescents to illegal financial debt traps alongside unverified gambling operations.

Surging Fraud Dockets and Physical Enforcement Actions

The digital expansion follows a broader pattern of intellectual property misuse and brand impersonation. Last year, the resort operator identified online advertisements and fake websites directing users to an unauthorized gambling platform named “1WIN,” prompting the company to file criminal complaints with police authorities. Official statistics show that detected cases of brand impersonation and fake sites increased from 53 instances last year to 1,545 cases by August of this year, driven by intensified monitoring and reporting protocols.

Physical enforcement has expanded alongside digital crackdowns. In May, a joint task force comprising the Gangwon Provincial Police Agency and the Jeongseon Police Station conducted targeted raids in the Sabuk-eup area of Jeongseon. Authorities uncovered four illegal speculative game rooms disguised as residential homes and offices, seizing 18 gaming-related devices including internet personal computers and tablet computers.

Legislative Action and Monitoring Expansion

Addressing the convergence of illicit gaming and predatory financial products, Rep. Lim Moon-young called for immediate remedial measures. “The name and logo of Gangwon Land are being used in chat rooms where illegal gambling and urgent loan advertisements targeting minors are circulating,” Rep. Lim Moon-young stated, urging authorities to expand monitoring parameters to Telegram and cooperate with relevant agencies to block the fraudulent accounts.
