Samsung Officially Ends Support for Galaxy note series
Samsung is ceasing software updates for the Galaxy Note series, marking the official end of an era for the once-flagship line. The Note 20 Ultra, the final device in the series released in August 2020, has received its last major Android OS update, confirmed by users on Reddit and reported by Android Authority.
The discontinuation of updates signals the final chapter for a line beloved by power users for its innovative features, especially the integrated S Pen stylus. While the Galaxy S Ultra series and Galaxy Z Fold models have since adopted S Pen support, the dedicated Note experience – including features like microSD expansion – is now officially retired. Longtime Note users are lamenting the loss, with many reporting their Note 20 Ultras remain functional despite aging components, and some intending to continue using them as primary or secondary devices.
Samsung retired the Note brand following the Note 20, positioning the Galaxy S Ultra as its new S Pen-equipped powerhouse. The move came as foldable phones, like the galaxy Z Fold series, also began incorporating stylus support, albeit without a dedicated silo. Despite the transition, the Note series remains fondly remembered for its unique contributions to the smartphone landscape.
