Gadgets & New Tech: GrapeVine Backup Launch & Trends

by Rachel Kim – Technology Editor

Grapevine Connect has partnered with Veeam to offer enhanced cloud backup solutions for businesses, addressing the growing threat of data loss. The collaboration, announced earlier this week, aims to provide a fast and secure data backup system, leveraging Veeam’s software and Grapevine’s cloud infrastructure.

Data loss poses a significant risk to modern businesses, with research indicating that 20% of companies experiencing data loss from outages incur losses between £40,000 and £4 million. Statistics reveal a grim outlook for affected businesses: over 90% do not recover, with over 50% closing within two years and over 40% never reopening. A substantial 70% of small firms go out of business within a year of a major data loss event.

The partnership centers around Veeam Cloud Connect, a fully integrated data backup solution. Grapevine Connect offers Backup as a Service (BaaS), managing the backup process for clients. This allows businesses to back up and restore data across different technologies within a single system, potentially reducing costs associated with secondary backup sites. The system is designed to maintain three copies of data across two different media types, with one copy stored offsite.

Veeam’s software is described as a backup solution capable of securely storing and restoring multiple technologies in a unified scheme. Cloud Connect, hosted in Grapevine’s data center, provides the infrastructure for safe offsite data backups.

Grapevine Communications, based in Healdsburg, has been providing network backup and IT services to businesses in the North Bay area for 15 years. They offer network automatic backup, where data from electronic equipment is automatically sent to a server for backup, with the server itself also being regularly backed up. The company currently serves Healdsburg, Windsor, Cloverdale, Santa Rosa, and Rohnert Park, including wineries, supermarkets, retail stores, and auto dealerships.

Grapevine Media also offers website backup services, allowing users to back up files, folders, or entire databases, with features including continuous security monitoring, downloads to local storage, one-click restore, and secure cloud storage.
