Titanic VR Experience Now Fully Available on Quest 3
The immersive simulation now includes the ship’s historic sinking.
The highly anticipated Titanic VR experience has finally exited early access for Meta Quest 3 and Quest 3S, bringing a comprehensive simulation of the legendary ocean liner to standalone virtual reality.
Relive the Tragic Voyage
Originally launched in 2018 for PC VR and PlayStation VR, developer Engage XR, formerly Immersive VR Education, has now optimized the experience for the more powerful Quest 3 hardware. This allows for a detailed recreation of the ship, including its numerous non-player characters and intricate interior and exterior designs.
Engage XR stated they are actively “pushing the limits” of the XR2 Gen 2 chipset in the Quest 3 and 3S to deliver this ambitious VR project. This represents a significant leap for standalone VR edutainment, showcasing the growing capabilities of mobile VR devices.
From Exploration to Immersion
Upon its initial early access release in April, the Quest 3 version only featured an Exploration mode. This allowed users to pilot a submersible and explore the Titanic shipwreck as it exists today. The full release now adds a crucial Experience mode.
This new mode immerses players in the ship’s devastating final hours, enabling them to relive the 1912 sinking from the perspective of a survivor. This addition transforms the experience from a historical exploration into a visceral retelling of the tragedy.
A New Standard for VR Edutainment
Engage XR also developed the acclaimed Apollo 11 VR experience, first released in 2015. While that title was deemed suitable for the original Oculus Quest, the complexity of rendering the Titanic led the developer to await more powerful standalone hardware.
In 2023, over 10 million VR headsets were sold globally, indicating a growing market for immersive educational content like Titanic VR (Statista 2024).
Titanic VR is now available for purchase on the Meta Horizon Store for both Quest 3 and Quest 3S. Players can revisit the PC VR review for insights, though visual fidelity and performance may differ between platforms.
