Boston, MA – The Free Software Foundation (FSF) is hosting its first hackathon of recent years this weekend, kicking off Friday at 6:00 PM EST and concluding Sunday at 11:00 PM EST.The FSF40 hackathon aims to foster contributions to free software projects and welcomes participants of all skill levels.
The event will center around collaborative coding and mentorship, with FSF staff connecting participants with project mentors. Projects include popular free software like Org mode and Guix, and participants are encouraged to explore multiple projects. While the FSF provides a Galene room (hackathon-general) for communication, individual projects may also utilize their own channels, such as the #orgmode and #guix IRC channels. Participants are cautioned that pre-existing channels fall outside the FSF’s safe space policy.
A jury will award prizes in three categories: first-time contributors, diverse and inclusive teams, and the most impactful contribution. the awards ceremony will be held in the hackathon-general Galene room at 10:00 AM EST on Sunday.
