SMU Women’s cross Country Secures Second Place at Texas A&M Invitational
BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION, TEXAS – The SMU mustangs delivered a strong performance at the Texas A&M Invitational on Saturday, finishing second overall with a team score of 72. The meet, held in challenging hot and humid conditions, saw impressive individual results, including a personal best from senior Macey Hilton.
Freshman Correia Carolina led the Mustangs, finishing seventh in the 5k race with a time of 17:20.6. Hilton wasn’t far behind, securing tenth place with a blazing time of 17:38.4 - a personal record enhancement of over 14 seconds.
“It was a strong team performance on a hot and humid day,” said Head Coach ‘A Havahla Haynes. “I challenged the women to get out hard through the first kilometer and hold that pace through the mile as we prepare for championship season in October. They executed well, and now our next step is tightening up our pack if we want to win moving forward.”
Sophomore Sophia Keditukei rounded out the top 15, finishing 14th with a time of 17:45.5. Ellie Grammas and Ruby Little also achieved personal bests, placing 21st and 22nd respectively. Elizabeth Smits completed the scoring for SMU, finishing 37th in the field of 144 athletes.
