Drone Strike ‌Injures Dozens on Train in ‌Sumy Region, Ukraine

Sumy, Ukraine – A Russian drone strike hit a passenger train in the⁢ Sumy region of‌ northeastern ukraine on Friday, injuring approximately thirty people, Ukrainian ​President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced.The attack underscores the continued threat to⁢ civilian infrastructure as the conflict enters its second year.

The incident occurred as ‌the ⁣train was traveling‌ through ⁤the region, a frequent​ target of russian shelling and drone attacks. zelenskyy stated the number of injured is currently estimated around ​thirty,with ⁣medical assistance being provided to those affected.Details ⁣regarding‌ the severity of the injuries‌ are still emerging.

This attack ‍follows the recent death of French ⁢photojournalist antoni Lallican, 37, ⁣who was killed‌ by a⁤ drone⁣ strike in Donbass, Ukraine, on October 3rd, according⁣ to the ​National Union of ‌Journalists (SNJ). the‍ Fej-Fij, European and‌ international ⁢federations of ‍journalists, “Condemn this war crime and call⁤ on the ‌authorities ‍to open an inquiry to identify ⁢those responsible.” It marks the first reported instance of a journalist killed by a drone in Ukraine. ⁣ Ukrainian journalist george Ivanchenko was also injured⁢ in‍ the same attack while reporting alongside Lallican. Both journalists were⁣ wearing protective equipment, including ‌bulletproof vests ‍marked with “press.”

Lallican had been reporting in Ukraine for Le ​monde since the start of the conflict in February 2022, and had previously covered Syria.
