Free Xbox Cloud Gaming with Ads Coming Soon
Microsoft plans to introduce an ad-supported tier to its Xbox Cloud Gaming service, offering players free access in exchange for viewing advertisements. The Verge first reported the news, citing sources indicating that Xbox Insiders will soon gain access to a testing phase.
Microsoft initially confirmed its intention to explore ad-supported cloud gaming in late 2023, but specific details regarding implementation remained scarce. This new tier aims to broaden access to Xbox’s gaming library by removing the subscription cost associated with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, which currently includes cloud gaming.
While the exact nature of the advertisements and their integration into the gaming experience are currently unknown, the move aligns with a growing trend in the industry. Other platforms, such as Spotify and YouTube, have successfully implemented ad-supported tiers to attract a wider user base.
The testing phase with Xbox Insiders will be crucial in gathering feedback and refining the ad experience before a wider public rollout. Microsoft has not yet announced a firm launch date for the ad-supported tier. TechSpot notes that details remain limited, but the initiative signals a important shift in Microsoft’s cloud gaming strategy.
