October 8, 2026 Emma Walker – News Editor News

Four teenagers died on Wednesday evening, October 7, 2026, when an overtaking car collided with a group of three mopeds on a country road in the Brandenburg district of Barnim, near Biesenthal, north-east of Berlin.

Fatal Collision on the Barnim Country Road

The tragedy unfolded as a 61-year-old driver attempted to pass multiple vehicles in the opposing lane. His car crashed directly into three mopeds traveling together from Biesenthal in a southern direction. One of the mopeds carried two people, while the others carried single riders. The impact killed three male drivers and one female passenger instantly at the scene. The youngest victim was a 14-year-old girl, while the three young men were aged between 16 and 19. A fourth moped rider managed to steer clear of the crash and escaped without injury.

Following the impact, the driver’s vehicle caught fire. Emergency responders rescued the 61-year-old motorist from the burning wreckage while he was severely injured. A rescue helicopter subsequently airlifted him to a hospital in Berlin. Authorities fully closed the affected roadway for several hours to conduct an accident investigation and clear the wreckage.

Crisis Teams Support Relatives After Moped Club Crash

Emergency services deployed crisis intervention teams to the scene to comfort grieving relatives who arrived at the site, alongside first responders who required psychological support. One family member stated that the group of teenagers belonged to a local moped club and were heading toward a McDonald’s restaurant roughly 13 kilometers away when the crash occurred. Makeshift memorials featuring candles, flowers, and a shattered moped goggle appeared at the roadside by Thursday afternoon.

Political leaders expressed public shock over the scale of the tragedy. Robert Crumbach, the SPD Minister of Transport for Brandenburg, issued a statement indicating that the accident deeply shook him. Crumbach extended his condolences to the families and friends of the victims while thanking the emergency personnel and crisis counselors who provided aid at the scene.

Ongoing Police Investigation

Police in Frankfurt an der Oder secured the site and launched a formal inquiry into the exact sequence of the overtaking maneuver. No further updates regarding the medical condition of the hospitalized driver or formal charges have been released by authorities.
