Four Killed in Tampa Bar Crash: Driver Charged with Homicide

Tampa, Florida – Four people⁢ were killed and eleven ​injured after a vehicle fleeing ⁣police⁣ crashed into a crowded bar in Tampa’s ‍historic ​Ybor City ‌early Saturday morning.⁢ The incident occurred at approximately 12:40 a.m. outside Bradley’s on 7th, a ⁤popular nightlife spot.

Police⁢ were alerted to the vehicle⁤ after ⁢it was observed racing in⁢ another ⁤neighborhood. The Florida ⁣Highway Patrol attempted to stop‌ the car with a PIT maneuver, but the⁣ attempt was unsuccessful. ⁣Officers disengaged the pursuit as the vehicle sped towards Ybor City, known for its vibrant nightlife and tourist activity.

The driver later lost control of the​ vehicle and struck more than a dozen people gathered outside the bar. Authorities ⁢have stated the crash was not a targeted attack. Three people died⁣ at the‌ scene, and a fourth ⁤died after ⁢being transported to a hospital. As of Saturday afternoon, two people remained hospitalized in critical condition, ‌seven were listed as stable, and two had⁢ been ⁢treated⁢ and discharged. Two individuals with minor injuries declined medical ‌treatment.

The suspect has been identified as​ Silas Sampson, 22. He has been⁤ charged with four counts of vehicular homicide ​and four⁢ counts of aggravated fleeing or eluding with serious ‍bodily injury ​or death – all first-degree felonies, according to court documents.

“What happened this morning was a senseless tragedy,” said Tampa Police Chief ⁤Lee Bercaw. “Our hearts are with⁢ the loved ones of the victims and all those who were impacted. Reckless driving put innocent lives⁢ in danger.”

Tampa Mayor Jane Castor added, “Our entire city feels this loss.”

Bradley Nelson, owner of Bradley’s ⁢on⁢ 7th, stated the⁤ vehicle struck⁣ three people on the pavement before crashing into the bar’s patio⁢ area. “This event has been very traumatic for⁤ my entire staff, and⁤ myself,” Nelson said. “Our thoughts and prayers go to the families of those who were ‍killed,and to ⁢all the injured.”
