Forza Horizon 6 PS5 Launch Reportedly Delayed Until After 2026
Microsoft has scrubbed the anticipated 2026 PlayStation 5 launch window for Playground Games’ racing title Forza Horizon 6, according to reports from The Verge senior reporter Tom Warren corroborated by IGN. While the open-world driving game was initially slated to arrive on Sony’s rival hardware following its multiplatform rollout plans, the port is no longer expected to materialize before the end of 2026.
Shifting Multiplatform Strategy at Xbox
The timeline adjustment arrives amid a broader strategic recalibration by Xbox regarding its multiplatform software releases. In recent months, marketing materials for major titles have noticeably omitted platform logos for the PlayStation 5 and upcoming Nintendo hardware. Xbox executive Asha Sharma previously acknowledged that including platform logos prematurely in past promotional pushes was a mistake. Although Xbox leadership has maintained that previously promised multiplatform ports—such as Forza Horizon 6 and Fable—will still honor their planned releases, the company has declined to provide fixed release schedules or promotional prioritization for those versions.

Other major titles have moved in the opposite direction regarding exclusivity. High-profile games like Gears of War: E-Day and Clockwork Revolution have been confirmed as permanent Xbox console exclusives. Meanwhile, Xbox pulled a promotional trailer for Halo: Campaign Evolved from Sony’s PlayStation State of Play broadcast at the last minute in June, though that title subsequently launched on PlayStation hardware in July.
Commercial Pressures and the Release Calendar
Beyond internal platform adjustments, the crowded late-year release calendar presents significant hurdles for porting a major racing franchise. September and October are heavily congested with competing software releases, and Rockstar Games’ Grand Theft Auto 6 is heavily tied to Sony marketing deals and projected to dominate industry sales upon its November arrival. Historically, December has remained an unfavorable window for launching major blockbusters, leaving few viable slots for a major platform port.
Whenever Forza Horizon 6 eventually lands on Sony’s console, it carries critical acclaim from its debut. IGN awarded the title a 10/10 rating in its review, describing the open-world driving game as a masterwork. As of publication, Xbox has not formally announced a revised release date for the PlayStation 5 version, and representatives for the company have not yet responded to requests for comment.
