Forty years after Albert Pisani disappeared from a Moe street and his remains were found in a Victorian forest, Victoria Police have issued a renewed appeal for information. The 27-year-old father of five vanished on October 10, 1986, leaving behind a family that still lives in fear of an unsolved crime.
Missing from Prince Street and Found in Driffield Bushland
Albert Pisani was last seen walking on Prince Street in Moe, intending to visit a local bank before returning home for lunch. Because he frequently hitchhiked across Australia and maintained a strong fascination with trucks, his relatives were not immediately alarmed when he failed to return. After five days without contact, he was officially reported missing. Eight months later, on June 9, 1987, searchers discovered his remains in bushland in Driffield, roughly 20 kilometres away from his home.
Missing Persons Squad Detective Inspector David Dunstan stated that Pisani encountered foul play. Police believe a workplace dispute preceded his disappearance. At the time, Pisani worked at a Morwell briquette factory operated by the State Electricity Commission.
An Appeal for Information and a One Million Dollar Reward
Victoria Police established a $1 million reward in 2015 for details identifying those responsible for the death, which remains active. Investigators indicate that prosecutors may consider indemnifying individuals who assist in naming the offenders. Detective Inspector Dunstan emphasized that allegiances shift over time, urging anyone with knowledge of the 1986 incident to approach authorities.
The unresolved nature of the investigation continues to weigh heavily on the surviving relatives. His sister, Karen Pisani, noted that she never had the opportunity to know her brother, and her mother, Mary, passed away in 2016 without learning what happened to her son. Carol Ward, another sister, shares the ongoing grief as the family marks four decades since the disappearance.
