Former NFL MVP Adrian Peterson Jailed on DWI and Weapons Charges
Former NFL running back Adrian Peterson is currently being held in the Fort Bend County Jail following his arrest Sunday morning in Sugar Land,Texas,a suburb southwest of Houston. He faces charges of driving while intoxicated and unlawfully carrying a weapon, according to authorities.
The arrest marks Peterson’s second DWI arrest in seven months. He was previously taken into custody in Minneapolis in April after attending an NFL draft party, where he was initially stopped for speeding.
Sugar Land Police Department spokeswoman Alicia Alaniz confirmed the arrest but declined to release details surrounding the incident. As of Monday, Peterson remained in custody, and jail records do not indicate he has retained legal counsel.
Peterson, 40, enjoyed a distinguished 15-year NFL career.A standout high school player in east Texas, he went on to play college football at Oklahoma before being drafted seventh overall by the Minnesota Vikings in 2007, where he spent the first decade of his professional career.
The three-time league rushing champion and 2012 NFL MVP finished his career with 14,918 rushing yards and 120 touchdowns.He is one of only nine running backs in NFL history to surpass 2,000 rushing yards in a single season, achieving 2,097 yards during his MVP year with the Vikings. Peterson played for a total of six teams over his final five seasons.
