LSU Removes Former Texas Longhorns defensive Tackle Sydir Mitchell From Roster
BATON ROUGE, La. – LSU has removed defensive tackle Sydir Mitchell from its football roster,according to reports. Mitchell transferred to teh Tigers program after a period of uncertainty regarding his future with the Texas Longhorns.
MitchellS departure marks a swift end to his time in Baton Rouge after joining the team in the offseason. While he did not see action in LSU’s first two games of the 2025 season, he participated in fall camp. The move comes as LSU coach Brian Kelly aimed to bolster the defensive line during the transfer period, initially viewing Mitchell as a key addition.
The Oradell, New Jersey native experienced a tumultuous decision-making process before ultimately committing to LSU. In December, Mitchell entered the transfer portal, reversed his decision to stay at Texas the following day, and then re-entered the portal, eventually landing with the tigers.
A former four-star recruit, Mitchell played in five games for Texas in 2024. He was ranked as the No. 205 player nationally and the No. 25 defensive lineman in the 2023 recruiting class, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings. Mitchell received 20 scholarship offers from programs including Arkansas, Florida State, Michigan, Ole Miss, Tennessee, and USC.
