ford Recalls Nearly 500,000 SUVs due to Brake Hose Leak Risk
WASHINGTON D.C. – Ford is recalling approximately 499,129 Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX vehicles due to a defect in the rear flexible brake hose that could lead to reduced braking performance and an increased risk of a crash. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) issued the recall notice at the end of August, impacting models manufactured between 2015 and 2018.
The recall affects 2015-2018 Ford Edge models and 2016-2018 Lincoln MKX vehicles. Ford reports the damaged brake hoses may develop leaks over time, potentially increasing brake pedal travel and extending stopping distances. A warning light on the instrument cluster will illuminate if brake fluid levels in the master reservoir drop too low as a result of the leak.
According to Ford, compromised braking performance significantly elevates the risk of a crash.
While owners will be formally notified by Ford next month, a fix for the issue is not currently available. The company anticipates the repair will not be ready until april 2026, leaving affected owners facing a prolonged wait.
Ford advises owners who suspect any brake-related issues to contact their local dealer or Ford customer service. Further details are expected with the mailing of official recall notices.
This recall is the latest in a series of safety concerns for the automaker.Ford is also addressing recalls affecting around 105,000 Mustang vehicles due to exterior lighting failures caused by water intrusion into the body control module, and another 100,900 Ford Ranger vehicles for potential side curtain airbag deployment failures.
Vehicle owners can check for existing recalls affecting their vehicle by visiting the NHTSA website and entering their license plate number, Vehicle Identification Number (VIN), or vehicle make and model.
