Collection launched to Support Police Officer Battling ALS
Náchod, Czech Republic – the self-reliant trade union of the Police of the czech Republic, alongside the basic association of the NOS PČR Náchod, has initiated a fundraising campaign to support long-time colleague Richard Novák, who is facing a battle with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS).The effort aims to provide financial assistance for Novák and his family to create lasting memories during a challenging time.
the collection, running until October 20, 2025, seeks to fund experiences – a final holiday at the sea or a ski trip to the Tatras – that insurance cannot cover, allowing Novák and his loved ones to cherish quality time together. ALS is a progressive neuromuscular disease affecting motor nerve cells, leading to muscle weakness and atrophy, and currently has no known cure, though research is ongoing.
ALS typically affects individuals between 40 and 70 years old, with an average diagnosis age of 55. While the disease occurs 20% more frequently in men, the incidence rate becomes more balanced with age. The fundraising effort underscores the importance of community support for those facing life-altering illnesses and their families.
