Foo Fighters Announce 2026 North American Tour & Share New Single

Foo Fighters Release New Single ‘Asking For A ‍Friend,’ Reflect on band’s Future

LOS ANGELES,‌ CA – Foo Fighters have released their first single, “Asking For‌ A Friend,” since the passing of drummer Taylor Hawkins ‌in March 2022, accompanied by a music video ⁤directed by Mark Seliger. The song, released ⁢today, November 10, 2023, ‍marks a‌ notable step forward⁣ for the band as they navigate life⁣ and music without their longtime collaborator.

The release of “Asking For A Friend” arrives after a period‌ of uncertainty for the ⁣Foo Fighters, following Hawkins’ death and subsequent changes within the band’s lineup. Earlier this year, Josh Freese, who stepped in as‌ touring drummer following Hawkins’ passing, announced his departure after the band ⁢”decided to go in a different direction.” The band then brought⁤ in Ilan Rubin, previously touring with Nine Inch Nails, essentially swapping drummers. Freese later stated the Foos’ material‍ “wasn’t music that I really resonated with,” and returned to ⁣Nine Inch Nails in August⁤ for their ‍North‌ American tour.

Dave ‌Grohl, ‍speaking ‍about the new single, shared that the process of creating ”asking For A Friend” reminded the ‍band “why we love ‍and are forever devoted to doing this.” He also ⁤acknowledged the contributions of past members, specifically ‍praising “the thunderous wizardry of Josh freese” and affirming hawkins’ enduring presence in their work.

Ilan Rubin debuted ‌with the band to positive reception, stating after his first gig, “After⁤ keeping my ⁣head down⁢ for a couple wild⁢ months and throwing myself ⁤into the⁣ material, that first show ‌was such an astonishing release of ⁣energy… Excited for all the volume and sweat that⁢ lies ahead.”

“Asking For ‍A Friend” is the first ‌taste of new music from the foo Fighters, signaling their⁢ continued⁢ commitment to creating⁣ music⁢ and performing, while honoring the‌ legacy of Taylor Hawkins and⁢ embracing a new chapter. The song is available now on all streaming platforms.
