Florida Man Mistaken for Jeffrey Epstein Faces Harassment & Viral Doppelgänger Claims
PALM BEACH, Florida – A Florida man is finding himself increasingly recognized, and often filmed, due to his striking resemblance to the late Jeffrey Epstein. The attention, which has surged in recent weeks following a viral video, is causing discomfort for the man, who identifies himself only as “Palm Beach Pete.”
The viral moment occurred when a passenger filmed Pete, 71, driving his convertible on I-95 in Palm Beach, shouting “Epstein is alive!” The clip quickly spread across social media platforms, igniting fresh waves of conspiracy theories surrounding Epstein’s 2019 death in a Manhattan jail cell, officially ruled a suicide.
“I’m not Jeffrey Epstein. I’m Palm Beach Pete!” Pete stated in a video posted to Instagram, addressing the online speculation. He reiterated this sentiment in subsequent posts, emphasizing his desire to distance himself from the disgraced financier. “I’m just Palm Beach Pete gonna play some tennis today, going into town, have lunch,” he said.
The resemblance first began drawing attention around 2019, coinciding with extensive media coverage of Epstein’s sex trafficking case, particularly in the New York Post. Pete, a former real estate executive and avid tennis player originally from New York City, said he noticed people staring and occasionally requesting photos while walking down Fifth Avenue. “It was in The Post, it was on TV all the time – it was the ‘it’ story, and I looked like him and I would be walking down Fifth Avenue, and tourists would circle around me,” he told the New York Post.
The attention has continued, and recently intensified. Pete recounted an incident just days before the viral video, where he and his companion were dining when they were approached for a photograph. He described the experience as “amusing” but expressed his discomfort with being associated with someone he described as “a particularly terrible person.”
Pete believes he even encountered Epstein once in the 1990s through a mutual acquaintance, the brother of one of Epstein’s associates. He described Epstein at the time as relatively unremarkable, before the allegations of abuse became public.
The viral video has prompted a renewed discussion about Epstein’s case and the lingering questions surrounding his death. While authorities maintain Epstein died by suicide, numerous conspiracy theories persist, fueled by unanswered questions and the high-profile nature of the case.
As of Friday, the initial Instagram video of Pete had garnered millions of views and shares, continuing to circulate widely across social media. Pete has not indicated any plans to alter his appearance or change his routine, despite the ongoing attention.
