Flodder Reboot Cancelled After Six Episodes Despite Tatjana Simic Return
The television reboot of the iconic comedy series Flodder, titled Kees Flodder, has been cancelled after airing just six episodes on Streamz, Nieuwsblad reported.
High Expectations Meet Quick Cancellation
Expectations for the revival were high following the success of the original late-century films and five television seasons centered on an antisocial family moving into a suburban villa. Despite heavy promotion, the reboot failed to secure a second season. Nieuwsblad noted that the series quickly dropped out of the top ten rankings on the Dutch streaming platform Videoland after its release, signaling early trouble for the production.
Tatjana Šimić Reflects on the Show's Abrupt End
While the cancellation confirmed earlier suspicions fueled by months of silence from the production team, actress Tatjana Šimić previously stated that producers had indicated plans for a second season. Speaking to RTL Boulevard, Šimić reflected on her return as the mother of the main character, noting that she maintained a positive outlook despite the show’s abrupt end. “I look back on Kees Flodder with great pleasure, even though there will be no second season,” she told RTL Boulevard, adding that she developed a lasting friendship with Jeroen Koopman during the shoot.

Jon Karthaus Praises Cast Despite Production Challenges
Director Jon Karthaus expressed regret over the cancellation in his comments to RTL Boulevard, praising the ensemble cast as one of the most talented groups he had ever worked with. The narrative of Kees Flodder followed a new generation, specifically a character named Kees junior—played by Ghislaine van IJperen—who inherits a luxury villa in the exclusive neighborhood of Eyckendael after a brief marriage to a rich elderly person. The absence of familiar characters from the original franchise, with the exception of Šimić, contributed to the challenges faced by the new iteration.
The Long-Term Outlook for the IP
Despite the definitive end of the current run, Šimić offered a lighthearted perspective on future possibilities for the intellectual property. “Perhaps there will be a sequel in thirty years anyway and I will become ‘granny Kees’,” she joked to RTL Boulevard, emphasizing that the project was ultimately created to entertain audiences without demanding excessive seriousness. Whether the franchise will remain dormant or eventually spawn another revival remains unaddressed by the production studios.
